January is always a time to reflect on the previous year and goals for the new year. Goals tend to focus on health, but many also focus on bettering their communities. This can range from simple actions to large commitments. There are some things I do on a day-to-day basis. Environmentally, I take public transportation or walk as much as I can. In fact, I don’t even own a car! I also always carry reusable shopping bags with me, in case I stop at a grocery store, farmers market, or Walmart when I’m out and about. Locally, I support my thriving small business scene; I’m lucky enough to have butchers, cheese mongers, and grocers all in walking distance of my home!
Another simple task is to support brands that share a similar vision about social responsibility as yourself. For me, one of those brands is Green Mountain Coffee Roasters®. I’ve been a Green Mountain Coffee Roasters drinker for years, and appreciate the many ways they try to support the local coffee growers and their communities through education programs, funding for research, and other efforts. They have been involved in some of these programs for decades! You can read more about them here. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters helps me start my days off on the right foot when I’m volunteering at my local food bank. Volunteer days can be fast paced, so I always enjoy a cup of coffee (my go-to flavor is Dark Magic) before I go to make sure I’m ready for the day ahead. Dark Magic is a dark roast coffee that has hints of dried fruit and chocolate.
The extra bold blend is perfect to start busy days. The flavors holds up nicely with some frothed milk when I have the time to do so! Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is a part of all of my mornings, even when I’m not volunteering. A weekend favorite is Caramel Vanilla Cream, a light roast that has the flavors of buttery caramel, toasty brown sugar, and creamy vanilla. It’s a nice start to a quiet Saturday morning. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters K-Cup® pods are readily available in 24-packs at Walmart, where I can count on Everyday Low Prices for my coffee essentials. My Walmart is just a short bus ride away, so I never have to worry about running out of coffee!
In case you’ve forgotten (or don’t own) a reusable bag, Walmart has some really affordable options to choose from. They fold up nicely and are great to keep on hand for future shopping!
